Introduce yourself!:)
Robin's Egg Pink was born in February of 2006 - right around the time that we adopted our daughter Maya (aka 'MayaPapaya') from China. My company, my work, is very important to me, but my first role is as a mom to my little girl (cold bugs included !).
Tell us a bit about your business..
The name 'Robin's Egg Pink' is a play on the traditional 'Blue' version. It's a tongue-in-cheek name for a product line that has a modern, but decidedly feminine feel to it. I, ( hopefully soon to be 'we'), produce pillows and decor items for the young, and the young at heart. My main website http://www.robinseggpink.com/ will also offer light fixtures.
I bet your house is covered in pillows..
(No, ironically my house is not covered in pillows. My husband Paul doesn't get the 'girls and pillows thing' - but then I don't get the 'guys and SuperBowl thing' either. Maybe pillows and football are chromosome-related somehow!)
When you're not being crafty, what do you do?
I worked in the health-care field for twelve years, and although I loved the people I worked with, every day of those twelve years felt like 'labor' to me. Those adages are true : "Love what you do, you're going to spend a lot of time doing it !" and " If you love what you do, you'll never work another day in your life". That doesn't mean that working for yourself is always 'easy', but it can be amazingly fun at the same time !

That doesn't mean that working for yourself is always 'easy', but it can be amazingly fun at the same time !
I'm a mom to a nearly three year-old child, so that uses up a lot of my 'time'. She also doesn't sleep very well, so coffee is my new best friend. My loveable Yellow Labrador Retriever 'Sam' keeps me busy on long walks in the park. He's totally blind, but can sniff out cookies at 100 yds ! He's my 'furry' second child. It's funny, but my business is always present in some way. It's the first thing I think about when I wake-up (coffee is a close 'second') and the last thing I think about before I go to sleep. I keep pen and paper on the nightstand in case 'inspiration' decides to strike. It's a simple thing, but it works for me.
Whats your favorite book, song, movie & website?
My favorite music? I'd like to be able to come up with something really 'of the moment', really 'cool' (if anyone says that anymore), but I like alot of different styles of music. Jazz is a perennial favorite, and I have always liked Annie Lennox. My favorite movie? - again there a lot, but my all-time favorite is 'Auntie Mame' with Rosalind Russell. Can't explain it - it just is. My favorite website? Etsy.com of course !!
How do you promote your work?
I will be promoting my work in a lot of ways including a blog, and Etsy. Traditional trade shows are also in the cards. Not relishing 14 hour days on concrete floors, but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do !
What are your short-term & long-term goals?
My short term and long term goals ? First and foremost: don't go broke! Seriously though, this is a business for me - it's my job. If something is taking me away from time with my child, then it has to be worthwile both financially and creatively. It also has to involve giving back to the community. Nobody has a truly 'easy' life, but we all have blessings to be grateful for. I think it's important to find a way to give something back - as a way of saying 'thanks' for those 'blessings'.
What advice do you have for other crafters who may want to start an indie craft business like yours?
My advice for others (not just 'crafters') again is simple, and has been said many, many times before. Listen to the advice of others, but ultimately, listen to your own voice -it's speaking to you for a reason. There are some ideas which just aren't going to work, no matter how hard you try, no matter how 'passionate' you are about them. (ie. If I lived in a retirement community, I probably wouldn't sell a lot of my pillows locally) But, assuming that your idea is a good one, work very hard, don't expect immediate results, and most importantly, surround yourself with supportive people. It could be through Etsy Forums, or your neighbors, it doesn't matter. What does matter is to filter out the nay-sayers. If something has been done before, and had been successful, then it can be done by you. In my own case, there are a LOT of people doing the same thing that I am. I am not trying to re-invent the wheel, I just want to make a 'prettier wheel', and hopefully somebody will like it enough to buy it for their home !
