Introduce yourself!:)
Charm Design was founded by myself, Ranja Lee. I am a stay-at-home mom with two children. I was born in Japan. I started to sew when I was a junior in high school. I studied at the Vantan Design Institute in Tokyo and worked at a childrens clothing company as a clothing designer for several years in Tokyo. I moved to Los Angeles in 1994, and studied Graphic Design at the California State of University Fullerton.

Now, besides taking care of my kids, I love to design and sew bags. I hope you can enjoy my piece of art!

Tell us a bit about your business..
I am selling original handmade bags.

What inspired you to start sewing?
When I was in junior high, there was sewing class at my school and I loved to do all school projects. Eventually, I started to make my own projects beside the school projects. I still remember that my first project was fabric shoes case with felt patchwork for my favorite teacher.

When you're not being crafty, what do you do?
Most of the time... Doing some things with my kids or house work. I would like to have more time for doing my own things... such as reading books or visiting many museums or galleries. Also, I love to go free market. I like to see and to collect more antique staffs

Whats your favorite book, song, movie & website?
Most things I love to read Japanese books and songs. However, movies… I have a lot of favorite movies in western culture. Life is beautiful, Sunflower, New cinema paradise, color purple and Tiffany in breakfast. I loved to watch Foreign moves especially Europe ones. Also, all Hayao Miyazaki's movies.

How do you promote your work?
Actually, I am promoting on ETSY only...I decided to open a BLOG, but I have not started yet...

What are your short-term & long-term goals?
I am so interested in producing original fabrics. I hope I can sell bags/pouches with original printed fabrics. Also, the pattern making. I would like to introduce more patterns. Now, I am selling some patterns of my original bag. So, I want to extend to making more variety of patterns to all craft lovers!! Definitely, I want to have my studio!! I am working on 1 of my houserooms. So, I want to have individual studio. The studio is a place not only me for my creativity but also for people who like to learn or exchange their creativity at the studio in the future. I like to open classes or events for helping or serving to the people.I have a lot of dreams in my future. Ha-Ha!!

Do you run Charmdesign full time?
Yes, I do!

What advice do you have for other crafters who may want to start an indie craft business like yours?
At First, ask yourself what you like to do... and follow your heart. Keep doing one thing for long term is most difficult to do however, very important to self-development and management. I am making and selling original bags for 3 years.I try not to forget myself the feeling I had in beginning when I started to sell my bags. Also, DO NOT forgets appreciation to customers who buy your items. I am so happy to share my creativity and beauty of handmade with people all over the world. I hope to develop happy relationships with handmade lovers from all over the world.
